LABOUR UNREST IMMINENT IN OGUN STATE

By Our Reporter

Ogun State workers are set to commence strike action soon as negotiation breaks down between the government and the labour unions.

This is fall out of the break down in agreement between the Labour leadership and Ogun State government over the commencement of the new minimum wage this March 2020.

The labour leadership in a letter of 30th of March 2020 signed by the duo of Comrades Emmanuel Bankole and Ayuba Olatunji, written to Ogun State government. It drew the attention of the government to the "failure of the state government to effect the payment of the new minimum wage and arrears of January and February with March Salary, contrary to the spirit of the agreement reached with the government on the subject matter"

The labour leadership also decried the " persistent attitude of government to renege on its promises and agreements without consultation with organised labour on issues affecting the wellbeing of its members is not only worrisome but disturbing".

According to a labour leader, Comrade Idowu Ajayi " it is disheartening that the government is owing staff deductions of six months out of 11 months salaries paid contrary to the promise of the government to pay salaries in full at the end of each month"

The leadership of the labour union has concluded to invite its membership out for a full blown statewide strike action effective mid-April 2020 if its demands are not meant by government before Tuesday 14th of April 2020.
