Ogun to relax lockdown, distribute palliatives to people


OGUN STATE Governor has hinted that the State would be on total lockdown from Saturday until Tuesday morning when it would be relaxed.
The Governor also said his government would be providing various food items to the poor and vulnerable.
He said the total lockdown imposed on the State which had commenced 11pm of Friday, would be relaxed on Tuesday from 7:00am till 2:00pm every other day to ameliorate the effects of the lockdown order.
“The lockdown will be total total from now till 7:00am on Tuesday. The lockdown will be suspended between 7:00am and 2:00p.m to allow for essential business activities, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated during his address to the State.
He further added that the 7:00am to 2:00pm window would be observed every other day therefrom, saying this would give an opportunity for economic activities to strive within the few hours of the relaxation time
The governor also stated that the period of the lockdown would be used to fumigate the state public places such as markets, motor parks and other essential areas across the State.
According to the governor, the government would be providing food items neatly packed for between 100,000 to 500,000 households throughout the state.
Among food items, which would be stationed in each senatorial district and be distributed to the 236 wards, included rice, beans, gari, salt, seasonings, vegetable oil and tomato puree.
Explaining the detail distribution process across the State, Governor Abiodun stated that the government had put in place a mechanism to ensure a seamless and efficient distribution process of the relief materials, however, handing down warning that any sharp practices that would undermine the objectives of the relief materials would be viewed seriously.
“Let me warn that any report of diversion or any other sharp practices that undermine the objectives of the relief materials will be viewed seriously. Indeed, there will be consequences,” he warned.
He explained that personnel of essential services providers such as security and fire service personnel, petroleum products dealers, food producers, and water distributors would have unlimited access to movement to perform their duties.
