2023 election: Youths’ active involvement in governance will move Nigeria to Socio economic stability - LP

By Our Correspondent

Labour Party has said it will continue to support Nigerian Youths in their ability to bring positive change into governance in the country due to their unparalleled patriotism and intelligence.

The National Publicity Secretary of LP, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi said this in Abeokuta during the unveiling of the House of Representatives Candidate for Abeokuta South Federal constituency held at IBD hotels, Abeokuta.

Comrade Arabambi who said majority of the candidates Labour Party is parading for the 2023 elections are youths who possessed great qualities needed to salvage Nigeria from the current turbulent situation it found itself due to the mismanagement of the God given resources that Nigeria possess.

While unveiling Hon. Tolu Phillips as the Labour Party House of Reps Candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi said the present reality of politics in Nigeria indubitably portrays a system that is under siege by the actions, inactions and reactions of the ageing political drivers of this country in policymaking and implementation.

He said "the current crop of leaders driving the economy of this country is a paradigmatic shift from what was obtainable in the post-colonial era where the nationalists who agitated and achieved independence from Britain were in their youth, but in Nigerian politics today, the reverse is the case.

“The Youths are the leaders of tomorrow” is an aphorism that contradicts the leadership monopoly practised by ageing Nigerian kleptocrats because the Nigerian government of present is led by gerontocrats who have continued to sideline the youth in the political and economic climate of Nigeria.

He said "with the coming of Peter Obi and arrays of youths being paraded by Labour Party for 2023 general elections, "we are going to shame gerontocrats in present-day Nigeria who have made participation and representation unattainable and inaccessible to Nigerian youth with policies that alienate them.

"About 80% of the population of APC and PDP leaders are not youth because these same sets of political leaders are recycled. For instance, General Muhammadu Buhari’s first regime as a leader of Nigeria, although military, was in his youth day in 1983. It is a shocking reality that 32 years later, the same Buhari is in power as the president in a democratic system.

Also speaking, the Ogun State Chairman of Labour Party Comrade Micheal Ashade said the LP will continue to work harder to ensure that its candidates win all elective positions in the Country and the State.

He said youths’ active involvement in governance and political processes as being championed by LP would bring the much-desired change they clamoured for.

“One way you can actively contribute in the electioneering is by getting involved. For a very long time, the political space and by extension, the electioneering processes have been occupied by the aged because the youth, with their intellectual acumen and agility, prefer to wail over obnoxious government policies, rather than fight for access into the main polity of the nation.

“I now happy that many of us Youths have woken up and the trend is gradually being subdued as attested to by a large number of youths that are joining Labour Party today and contesting for different positions  in the forth coming elections.”

Also, the House of Reps Candidate for Abeokuta South Federal constituency, Hon. Tolu Phillips said as a youth who feels impacts of misgovernance and maladministration of the aged politicians, he is assuring members of his Constituency of adequate and quality representation if given their mandate.

He said as a true born Egba man, who was born, trained and had established in Egbaland and Abeokuta South in particular, he knowns where the shoe pinches and will definitely work on ways to ameliorate the suffering of his people by attarcting more Federal government presence into the area.

He enjoined youths and other residents of the area to create a movement and be hungry for power by obtaining their permanent voters card.
