THE OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT has expressed deep appreciation to Lafarge Africa Plc for its impactful investment in basic education, following the comprehensive renovation of the Christian Pelamourges Memorial Baptist Day Nursery and Primary School, Agbesi, and the donation of 2,000 learning materials to senior secondary schools.

Lafarge Africa Plc, a Huaxin Group company and one of Nigeria’s leading building solutions providers, which reaffirmes its commitment to quality education and community development made the full renovation of the Christian Pelamourges Memorial Baptist Day Nursery and Primary School, Agbesi, in Ewekoro, Ogun State.

The extensive upgrade covered five classroom blocks, an expanded Head Teacher’s office, and newly built dining and toilet facilities. The project also featured new roofing, electrical and plumbing works, plastering, tiling, and painting. To enhance learning comfort, the company furnished the school with modern desks, chairs, library shelves, and dining tables, while a new playground and football field were installed to promote recreation and holistic development.

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, praised the project, noting that it aligns with the state’s school rehabilitation programme.
“The government is intentional about revamping educational facilities, but we cannot do it alone. Lafarge has delivered a global-standard intervention, and we urge the company to continue this noble partnership,” he said

Lafarge Africa’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the intervention underscores the company’s belief in education as a catalyst for sustainable growth.
“Quality education is one of the most powerful tools for building the future of children,” he said. “By transforming this school, we are not only improving infrastructure but empowering young minds and strengthening the social fabric of our host communities.”

Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Joshua Ifede, commended Lafarge’s commitment to the future of children.

“You have shown that CSR can be a noble assignment. This upgrade will significantly boost teaching, learning engagement, and teacher motivation,” he stated.

The Head Teacher, Mrs. Ayoola Oluwaseunayo, described the project as a “life-changing intervention” that would impact generations. In a show of gratitude, pupils presented a special appreciation song to Lafarge.

At the commissioning event, Lafarge Africa further donated 2,000 Mathematics textbooks to the Ogun State government to support senior students preparing for their certificate examinations.

The renovation project is part of Lafarge Africa’s broader sustainability agenda to empower communities and invest in young learners, reinforcing its role as a long-term development partner in its host areas.
