Update from 2022 Osun Governorship Election

Data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) (as of Wednesday) suggest that Ekiti has a total of 988,923 registered voters.

The election is taking place in 3,763 polling units across 332 registration areas in 30 local government areas of the State.

Osun State also has three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, and 23 state constituencies.

Although there are 15 political parties in the State, but today's governorship election has been dubed a two- horse race between the candidate of All Progressives Congress, Governor Oyetola and the opposition party , Peoples Democratic Party's candidate Adeleke that is ia rematch of 2018.


10:46 am: Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his wife have arrived at Polling Unit 2 Ward 1, Local Authority Primary School in Boripe LGA where they joined the queue to cast their votes.

The couple were welcomed by a cheering crowd of supporters, some of whom are on uthe queue waiting to also cast their votes.


10:20 am: Labour Party candidate, Lasun Yusuf, votes at about 10:20 am. He says Nigeria is in trouble if vote-buying mars the Osun governorship election.

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has cast his vote at the ongoing Osun State governorship election.

The former lawmaker cast his vote at Unit 009, Ward 02, Abogunde/Sagba, Ede North in Osun state.

When asked about the election process and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s preparedness for the poll, he said the process was “fantastic”.

He said with the feelers he was getting across the state, calmness was the order of the day and he expects the situation to remain the same till the end of the electoral process.

On rumoured vote-buying by political opponents, he said the process was just starting and he hopes they would remain rumours.

“We want this election to be a point of contact for 2023. The whole world is watching us and this is going to be a test for us all. So, let Osun people decide who they want,” he said.

OSUN STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR, MR BENEDICT ALABI, has voted in the ongoing governorship election holding in the state.

Alabi, who is also the running mate to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and the governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, cast his vote at about 10:30 at Ward 06 Unit 007 Sango area of Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area

Speaking in an interview with journalists after the election, Alabi expressed confidence that his party would win the poll comfortably.

He said, “My expectation is that we are winning the election. The turnout is also impressive."
