Port Harcourt: Reported by Our Correspondent

FORMER PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN denies the reports that he orchestrated the crisis in the PDP, stating that the aggrieved party governors are loyal to him.
He said such reports were mere to mask the mischief of the backers of the story and mislead the unsuspecting population.
This was contained in a statement released by his Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze recently.
It should be recalled that the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has deepened in recent days when the aggrieved governors, also known as the G-5, announced that they were yet to decide which presidential candidate to support in next year’s elections.
The governors are Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).
They mooted that there's still room to negotiations and reconciliation, their support for PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice-president, remains withdrawn.
In the statement, Jonathan said that some reports claimed that “the entire (crisis) in the PDP…is orchestrated by President Jonathan,” or that “he (Jonathan) is encouraging Governors Nyesom Wike, Makinde, Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi and Ortom to behave as they are doing”, knowing that “these five governors are fighting for their cause”.
He said that while it is not out of place to be called upon to intervene during such a crisis, the reports could not have emanated from the camps of those who truly want the best for the party.
“It just shows that the so-called ‘sources’ of history are not disposed to the peace and unity they claim to seek in the PDP,” he said.
Unlike many of his detractors, the former president, out of office, progressed to a higher level of statesmanship, faithfully devoting himself to causes that promote peace, love, unity and progress throughout the West African subregion, part of the statement reads.
Mr. Jonathan wishes that the PDP is able to resolve its internal crisis, unite all members and have a good performance in the upcoming elections in 2023.
He said it will be difficult to achieve victory if some party forces continue to smear, misinform and manifest tendencies that deny the values that are held dear by loyal party members.
