CORPORATE AFFAIRS COMMISSION (CAC) is set to deregister companies on it's register that have failed to file their tax returns in decades.
Alhaji Garba Abubakar, CAC’s Registrar-General/Chief Executive Officer, made this known in Abuja, recently, during a courtesy visit of Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN).
He said approximately 100,000 business names and 10,000 incorporated trustees have defaulted in the last decade would soon be published for striking off from the companies register kept by the CAC.
This initiative was said to be in line with the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (2020).
Abubakar further stated that companies marked for striking off the register were expected to comply within 90 days of publication, otherwise, they would be delisted.
He continued that the move was also intended to promote compliance and enhance CAC’s records, aligning with the Beneficial Ownership Register and international best practices.
Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), while addressing the CAC's Registrar, expressed the institute’s readiness to collaborate with CAC for improved service delivery.
