PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI OF NIGERIA acknowledged that inflation, documented in a new report showing prices soaring by 18.6 per cent in June compared to a year ago, is “unacceptably high” — but he argued that Nigerians are economically better off than other Africans.

President Buhari’s statement came at the outset of his trip to the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, at his palace in Katsina on Saturday, July 16, 2022. During an arrival ceremony, the president stressed that “he has done his best in tackling the challenges of the country and wouldn't relent as tenure gradually comes to an end in 2023.”

According to him, his administration remains committed to tackling the country's security challenges, adding that he looks forward to the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general election.

The President said Nigerians should be confident in his administration's determination to fix other sectors of the economy before the end of his tenure.

"Thank God we are doing our very best; I am praying that God will once again give us the wisdom to do more for the betterment of our people," he said.

Speaking of the country's economic situation, President Buhari said Nigerians should be grateful compared to the challenges of other African countries.

He also reiterated that he has done his best considering what other African countries are currently going through in terms of economic challenges.

“Considering what other African countries are currently going through in terms of economic challenges, "Nigerians will have reasons to thank God,” he noted.

The President also prayed that God would give him the wisdom and courage to deal with those behind Nigeria's security challenge, expressing hope that Nigerians would understand the situation leaders find themselves in, as he urged them to support and pray for the country.
