OGUN STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION (OGISIEC), has conducted a bye-election at Joga/Ibooro Ward 5 in Yewa North Local Government Area, following which Hon. Saheed Ali of All Progressives Congress has been declared winner of the election.
The bye-election witnessed a large turnout of voters across the eight polling units of the Ward as Hon. Saheed Ali polled a total number of 1,749 votes to win.
The by-election, which was conducted in line with the Ogun State Electoral Law, was meant to replace the late Councillor, Hon. Sunday Ogundele, and the councillir-elect would complete the tenure.
Monitoring the process, political party chieftains in the area, including the State Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, APC Chairman, Mr. Adekunle Adeosun, the Council boss, Mr. Oluwole Ogunyomi, among others, commended OGSIEC for a well organised exercise, saying the orderliness at various polling units showed the Commission's level of preparedness towards a hitch-free election.
Omoniyi, while noting that the exercise was peaceful and fair, appreciated the people in the area for casting their votes, assuring that, efforts are in top gear to mobilising people to get their Permanent Voter’s Card for the 2023 General Elections, as the window of prospect is still open for people to register and those who have changed locations having opportunity to transfer their registration to new locations.
Also speaking, the Awujako of Ijako, Oba (Revd.) Matthew Ewedairo lauded the Commission for conducting a free and fair election, adding that voting materials were sufficient with high turnout of voters.
In his remark, the newly elected Councillor, Hon. Ali appreciated the people for the confidence reposed in him, promising to do his best to ensure development in the area.
