THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICES (DSS) has issued a statement regarding plans by organised labour to hold protests in various parts of the country on 27th and 28th February, 2024.
While acknowledging the right of the labour movement to peaceful protests, the DSS is urging them to reconsider their plans in the interest of maintaining peace and public order.
The statement was made available to thedispatch in Abuja, Wednesday , by Peter Afunanya, Ph.D, the Director of PR & Strategic Communications at the Department of State Services in Abuja.
The DSS has expressed concerns that some individuals may take advantage of the protests to incite violence and create further instability in the country.
They are calling on all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and negotiation to address the economic challenges at hand.
The service emphasized that the government at all levels is actively working to improve the economic situation and should be given the opportunity to do so.
They are reminding citizens that resorting to violence will only exacerbate the current difficulties facing the country.
Parents, guardians, political parties, religious and traditional institutions, civil society, and other sectors are also urged to promote peace and unity during these challenging times.
The DSS warns against allowing any divisive forces to disrupt the harmony within the nation.
The DSS strongly opposes violence as a means of resolving issues and is committed to working with other security agencies to ensure peace is maintained in the country.
