TWO MEN have been arrested in connection with a one chance robbery gang operating along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The arrests were made by Sango Ota police operatives, following a report by a victim on March 23, 2024.
The Police Public Relations Officer,, Ogun State Police Command, SP SP Omolola Odutola, anipr. made this known in a public statement released via the Police Whatsapp platform, yesterday.
According to the victim, she boarded a Toyota Corolla taxi at Ijako market, heading to Itori. Four men, who posed as fellow passengers, were also inside the taxi. During the journey, the men robbed the victim of her valuables, including a smartphone valued at #85,000, #123,000 from a POS machine sale, and #105,000 in cash. They then pushed her out of the car and fled the scene.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sango Ota Division ordered his surveillance team to be on the lookout for the suspects. The police intensified their efforts, and on March 28, 2024, two of the fleeing suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol in Itori. The suspects, identified as Aliu Oyetola, 35, and Seyi Afolabi, 40, abandoned their Toyota Corolla vehicle (with registration number GGE 659 FR, blue color) upon sighting the police and tried to flee in different directions. However, they were pursued and successfully captured.
Both suspects have made confessional statements and are cooperating with the police by providing useful information that may lead to the arrest of other members of the gang.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered their transfer to the Anti-Robbery Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The arrests of these two suspects are seen as a significant victory in the fight against one chance robbery along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. The police are determined to bring all perpetrators of such crimes to justice and make the roads safer for commuters.

In a firm stance against gender-based violence (GBV), the Ogun State Police Command has swiftly acted upon a report of defilement and arrested a suspect involved in the heinous act.
The police have sent a strong message that no one involved in such crimes will escape punishment, as GBV is a serious violation of human rights.
According to the report received from the Ifesowapo Otitoloju Community Development Association (CDA) in Ilara Ogijo, a 14-year-old female student of Aderegun Community High School, in JSS 1, was subjected to rape on the 28th of March 2024. The perpetrator has been identified as 24-year-old Gadafi Bala.
Upon receiving the report, the Division Police Officer of Ogijo wasted no time and immediately visited the victim. The officer issued an examination form to be completed for evaluation, which resulted in a positive confirmation that the victim had been unlawfully assaulted by Gadafi.
The victim was then taken to a government-owned hospital, where a doctor confirmed the initial findings through a thorough examination. Subsequently, Gadafi was promptly arrested.
A preliminary investigation into the matter has begun, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation. The Ogun State Police Command is determined to bring all perpetrators of GBV.
