THE OGUN STATE COUNCIL of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has formally endorsed one of its leaders, Comrade Wole Sokunbi, to vie for the Deputy National President position during the upcoming 8th Triannial National Delegates Conference.
Comrade Wole Sokunbi, a former Secretary and Chairman of the Ogun State Council with two terms of service respectively, presented his nomination form on Wednesday at the council’s Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, to the council chairman, Comrade Wale Olarenwaju.
During the brief ceremony, the council chairman praised Comrade Sokunbi as a commendable leader who has provided support and guidance to many past leaders of the council. He highlighted Sokunbi's significant contributions to his own election as council chairman, emphasizing that it is now time for the council to reciprocate by fully backing his candidacy.
"This is a time to give back to our candidate for the Deputy National President position. The Ogun Council will provide complete support for the campaign, both in terms of advocacy and financial backing. We believe our candidate is competent and well-versed in union activities, as demonstrated by his experience as both Secretary and Chairman of the Ogun Council," he stated.
Upon receiving congratulations, Comrade Sokunbi expressed gratitude to the council's leadership for their trust in him to represent Ogun State and the South West at the national level, promising to uphold their faith in him.
He also urged for unity within the region as they approach the national convention, stressing that his representation should not be compromised by any discordant voices.
