THE OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT, n a bid to prioritize the health and well-being of female students, has taken a significant step by distributing eco-friendly, reusable sanitary pads to selected secondary school girls in the state.
The distribution exercise, led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, took place at the African Church Grammar School in Ita-Eko, Abeokuta.
The commissioner highlighted that Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration places a strong emphasis on the welfare of the girl-child, which inspired this initiative.
The reusable sanitary pads provided are described as affordable, comfortable, and convenient, addressing the economic challenges that many families face in the country.
According to Adeleye, the Ministry would continue to focus on teenage wellness to empower girls to become role models and achieve success in society.
During the distribution, students were reminded of the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene to prevent illnesses and boost overall health and well-being.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Ayotunde Lawal, emphasized the significance of cleanliness as a crucial aspect of daily life.
School principals, Mrs. Elizabeth Famoroti and Mrs. Yemisi Akinda, welcomed the distribution of the reusable pads, noting that it would not only save money on disposable products but also encourage students to practice good hygiene habits.
Grateful for the government's initiative, students Glory Olusola and Waliat Dauda expressed their joy and pledged to prioritize cleanliness to ensure good health for themselves and their peers.
