Abuja - NADEEM ANJARWALLA, a key figure in the criminal investigation into Binance's activities in Nigeria, has managed to escape lawful custody, according to the Office of the National Security Adviser. The escape occurred on Friday, March 22, 2024.

The statement was made available to thedispatch in Abuja Monday and signed by. Zakari U. Mijinyawa, Head of Strategic Communication, Office of the National Security Adviser

Upon receiving confirmation of the escape, Nigerian authorities swiftly launched efforts in collaboration with relevant security agencies, government departments, and the international community to apprehend Anjarwalla. Interpol has been contacted in order to obtain an international arrest warrant for the suspect.

Preliminary investigation results indicate that Anjarwalla fled the country using a smuggled passport. The individuals responsible for his custody have since been detained, and a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding his escape from lawful detention.

The Federal Government of Nigeria, like many other governments worldwide, has been investigating money laundering and terrorism financing activities linked to the Binance currency exchange platform.

Anjarwalla, who holds both British and Kenyan nationalities and serves as Binance's Africa regional manager, had been undergoing trial in Nigerian courts. At the time of his escape, he was under a 14-day remand order and was scheduled to appear in court again on April 4, 2024.

Authorities are urging the Nigerian public and the international community to come forward with any information that may assist law enforcement agencies in capturing the escaped suspect.
