OGUN SPEAKER EXTOLS OBASANJO

Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly Mr. Olakunle Oluomo, has extolled Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former Nigeria president, for establishing a cultural institution for the preservation of the socio-political and cultural history of the Yoruba and Nigeria.

Oluomo, who led other lawmakers to a visit to the former President, said the artefacts and the latter’s military relics while in the Nigerian Army would be a reference point in the annals of the country.

Describing Obasanjo as a living legend of all times, the Speaker further commended Obasanjo’s immense contributions to the growth of democracy in Nigeria.

The Speaker lauded the former president’s initiative towards referencing the nation’s history with evidence as reflects in the natural art collections for the education of upcoming generations.

He thanked the former President on behalf of his colleague-lawmakers for his vision at ensuring evidence based documentations at the center on national history, including landmark events, culture and other notable activities.

Earlier in his remarks, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo appreciated the visit of the lawmakers to the facility, stating that it had become expedient to preserve cultural values with a view to improving the present situation and inspiring the future.
He underscored the art of keeping and preserving the past for posterity, saying his past experience about keeping relics for history spurred him to establish the center with sections for the Organization of African Unity, (OAU) and African Union (AU), collection of books, cultural heritage, and other historical relics among others.
